It’s not always necessary to move out while the extension work is being carried out.
Does MFW offer a total project management package?
MFW provides a total solution including building works, plumbing, flooring and decorating, however we will also work with the customer’s own suppliers or specialised professionals if preferred.
Do your kitchen extensions come with a guarantee?

What about building certification?
MFW incorporates required building standards throughout the extension. Certification is provided after final inspection by Building Control. Certification is also provided for electrical and gas works.
Do you provide references?
MFW’s website has several testimonials provided by our clients and most of our work comes from personal recommendations. MFW is a member of The Guild of Master Craftsmen and the Institute of Carpenters.
How long do kitchen extensions take to build?
There are a lot of factors to take into account. Depending on the size and scope of the kitchen extension project, the work normally takes between 4-8 weeks.
What do I need to consider when thinking of extending my kitchen and how much will it cost?
The cost of a kitchen extension can vary significantly. Here are some of the things to consider:
- Size and Complexity: The size of the extension and its complexity will have an impact on overall cost. Larger extensions with intricate designs can cost upwards of £100K but a small extension with a basic design can be achieved for between £50K and £70K.
- Materials: The choice of materials significantly impacts the cost. High-quality materials, such as hardwood flooring, custom cabinetry, and premium fixtures, will increase the overall expense.
- Labour and Construction: Labour costs depend on the complexity of the project, the number of workers required, and the duration of construction. Skilled tradespeople, such as carpenters, plumbers, and electricians, contribute to the overall cost.
- Design and Architectural Fees: Hiring an architect or designer to create detailed plans and obtain necessary approvals adds to the cost. Their fees vary based on experience and the scope of work.
- Planning Permissions and Building Regulations: You’ll need to obtain planning permissions and adhere to building regulations. These processes involve fees and inspections.
- Utilities and Services: Extending utilities (such as plumbing, electrical, and gas lines) to the new space may incur additional costs.
- Finishes and Fixtures: The quality of finishes (flooring, countertops, tiles, etc.) and fixtures (sinks, faucets, lighting) affects the overall budget.
- Site Preparation: Clearing the area, levelling the ground, and addressing any existing issues impact costs.
- Scaffolding: Will be required if extension is extended to first floor.
- Contingency: It’s wise to allocate a contingency budget for unexpected expenses or changes during construction.
Benefits of kitchen extensions
- Increased Space: A kitchen extension provides additional square footage, allowing you to expand your kitchen area. This extra space can accommodate more appliances, storage, and work surfaces.
- Improved Functionality: With more room, you can design a kitchen layout that suits your needs. Whether it’s an open-plan kitchen-diner, a spacious island, or a dedicated breakfast nook, extensions enhance functionality.
- Enhanced Natural Light: Well-designed extensions often incorporate large windows, skylights, or glass doors. These features flood the kitchen with natural light, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere.
- Connection to Outdoors: If your extension opens up to a garden or patio, it seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor spaces. Imagine enjoying breakfast while overlooking your garden!
- Increased Property Value: A well-executed kitchen extension can significantly boost your home’s value. Buyers appreciate modern, spacious kitchens, making your property more attractive in the real estate market.
- Entertaining Space: Larger kitchens are ideal for hosting gatherings. Whether it’s a family dinner or a party, the extended space allows for comfortable entertaining.
- Customisation: You have the freedom to customize your kitchen extension according to your taste. Choose materials, finishes, and fixtures that align with your style and preferences.
- Energy Efficiency: Modern extensions can incorporate energy-efficient features, such as better insulation, double-glazed windows, and energy-saving appliances. This can reduce utility bills and benefit the environment.
- Increased Resale Appeal: As mentioned earlier, a well-designed kitchen extension adds value. When you decide to sell your home, potential buyers will appreciate the updated kitchen space.
- Lifestyle Enhancement: Ultimately, a kitchen extension enhances your lifestyle. It provides a comfortable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing space where you can cook, dine, and spend time with loved ones.
